Over-Height Transformer Transportation Project.
Al Sharif completed the transportation of over-height heavy-lift transformers from Khalifa Bin Salman Port (K.B.S.P.) to the R.A.Z. Private Jetty at Askar in December 2009.

Because the transformers exceeded the permitted road-height clearance, conventional road transportation was not possible. A combined land and heavy-lift barge operation was therefore arranged to deliver the cargo safely.

Project Scope

- Inspection of the transformers and verification of dimensions and weight
- Assessment of road-height and route restrictions

- Roll-on loading of the trailers onto a heavy-lift barge

- Barge unloading and final delivery at Askar
- Coordination with the client, port, marine and site teams

Our Solution

Al Sharif developed a customised barging solution to overcome the road-height limitations.

The transformers were loaded and securely fastened onto specialised multi-axle trailers. The trailers carrying the transformers were then loaded onto a heavy-lift barge at K.B.S.P.

The barge transported the complete units to the R.A.Z. Private Jetty, where they were safely unloaded for final movement to the ALBA project location. Detailed engineering, cargo securing and operational coordination were maintained throughout the project.

Project Result

The over-height transformers were successfully transported from K.B.S.P. to R.A.Z. Private Jetty without relying on restricted public-road routes.

The project demonstrated Al Sharif’s capability to manage complex heavy-lift transportation through integrated road, port and marine logistics solutions.
